The Demographics Research Group produces population estimates, including the official estimates of total population for localities, that are used throughout the Commonwealth for decision-making and fund allocation. Our group also produces school-age population estimates, school enrollment projections, and other data products as funding permits.
Estimates focus on the present or recent past; they are typically based on a variety of administrative record data, such as births, deaths, school enrollment, and residential housing construction to detect population changes since the most recent decennial census.
SCHOOL-AGE POPULATION ESTIMATES
The School-Age Population Estimates are produced annually by the Demographics Research Group and estimate the 5-19-year-old population of each school division and town in Virginia.
SCHOOL ENROLLMENT PROJECTIONS
Our school population data experts produce school enrollment projections at the division level—and also for individual schools—on contract basis, upon request.
